SIC Insurance PLC has officially launched a fleet of electric vehicles alongside charging infrastructure as part of a major step in its Green Transition Agenda, marking a significant move toward sustainable operations within Ghana’s insurance sector.
The launch ceremony, held in Accra, brought together management, staff, and stakeholders as the company unveiled what it described as a strategic shift toward cleaner mobility and reduced carbon emissions.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director Mr James Agyenim-Boateng said the initiative aligns with Ghana’s broader national commitment to climate action, renewable energy adoption, and sustainable development.
“This reflects a growing understanding that modern day businesses must balance profitability with environmental stewardship and social impact,” he said, adding that climate responsibility is now central to corporate decision-making.
He noted that the introduction of electric vehicles builds on earlier sustainability efforts by the company, including the rollout of solar energy systems at selected branches. According to him, that pilot project has delivered encouraging results, with plans now advanced to expand solar installations to major branches nationwide.
“Today’s EV outdooring marks the next deliberate step on that journey,” he stated, describing the initiative as part of a broader transformation in how the company manages its environmental footprint and operational responsibility.
Mr Agyenim-Boateng emphasized that as an insurer, SIC Insurance is in the business of managing risk, noting that climate change remains one of the most significant risks facing societies today.
“It would be inconsistent of us to underwrite protection against risk while remaining indifferent to one of its greatest sources,” he said, stressing that the company aims to lead by example rather than policy statements alone.
He commended the Board, management, staff, and partners for supporting the Green Transition Agenda, describing the EV rollout as “not the destination but the beginning of a broader transformation agenda.”
He further called on other institutions to adopt similar environmentally responsible practices, stating that collective action is essential to building a greener and more sustainable Ghana.
The event concluded with a thanksgiving prayer for the company and the nation.
