The mother of two children at the centre of a custody dispute has rejected claims that the children are missing, insisting they are safe and currently in the care of a trusted family relative.
Loretta Asefuaba Arthur said media reports suggesting the children had gone missing following a custody battle with their father are inaccurate.
Her comments follow proceedings at the District Court in Tema, where the children’s father, Moses Kyei, told the court he had been unable to locate them despite being granted custody as part of divorce proceedings.
The court subsequently directed the Ghana Police Service, including the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), to assist in tracing the children after the father’s attempts to locate them proved unsuccessful.
However, speaking to CitiNewsroom.com on Wednesday, June 10, Ms. Arthur maintained that the children are not missing.
She said describing the situation as a case of missing children misrepresents what she described as an ongoing family and legal dispute.
She also addressed suggestions that she had fled Ghana under questionable circumstances, explaining that she is a lawful resident of the United Kingdom and has not acted unlawfully regarding the children.
On the legal process, she stated that no final custody determination has been made, contrary to claims by the children’s father, despite the matter being heard at the District Court in Tema.
She further alleged that the children’s father, the respondent in the case, has not contacted her to inquire about their welfare or whereabouts, but has instead relied on public claims and unilateral actions.
Ms. Arthur also rejected claims that the father has been denied access to the children, stating that she remains willing to facilitate contact and ensure the children are made available once appropriate arrangements are agreed.
