A Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, has broken his silence following reports of his arrest in the Netherlands, assuring constituents that “everything will be fine.”

The message was conveyed through his Deputy Communications Officer, Nana Poku, who said he had personally spoken with the MP while he remains in custody. According to Nana Poku, the legislator indicated that he has not been officially informed of the reasons for his arrest.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM, Nana Poku Monitored by Journalist and Blogger Andre Mustapha Nii Okai Inusah (Attractive Mustapha) confirmed that the MP reached out to his constituency and urged residents to remain calm. He also appealed to the public to disregard what he described as “false allegations” circulating in the media and online.
“I have personally spoken to the MP. He is still under arrest and has not been told why he was picked up. He wants his constituents to remain calm and assured them that everything will be fine,” Nana Poku stated.
Background to the Arrest
The arrest of the MP has stirred significant controversy both locally and internationally. Reports indicate that Ohene Kwame Frimpong was detained in the Netherlands as part of an ongoing international investigation into alleged financial crimes.
Sources suggest the case may be linked to a broader probe involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with allegations pointing to a complex network of money laundering and suspected romance scams valued at approximately $32 million.
Investigators are believed to be examining claims that the scheme involved deceptive online relationships used to defraud victims across multiple jurisdictions. However, no official charges have been publicly confirmed against the MP at this stage.
Calls for Restraint
Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Nana Poku insists that the situation remains unclear and cautioned against rushing to judgment.
He emphasized that neither the MP nor his team has received formal communication detailing the basis of the arrest, adding that due process must be allowed to take its course.
Public Reaction
The development has generated widespread concern among Ghanaians, with many calling for transparency and accountability. The case, if substantiated, could have significant implications for public trust in political leadership and Ghana’s international image.
Authorities in both Ghana and the Netherlands are yet to issue comprehensive official statements on the matter, leaving many questions unanswered as the investigation unfolds.
