Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared that the party will not be intimidated by the recent arrest of some of its members, insisting that it will continue to engage the public and promote its ideas.

His comments come amid growing concern within the NPP following a series of arrests involving party figures by security agencies.
Among those recently arrested are the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, and the Agona West NPP Organiser, David Essendoh.
Speaking at a meeting with student leaders at the University of Ghana on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, ahead of a three-day boot camp organised by the party, Dr. Bawumia struck a defiant tone, stressing that the NPP would respond to the situation through political engagement rather than fear.
“We will take the debate and idea to the country, and we will make our case. We are, however, saying that we will not be intimidated,” he said.
In a strong show of resistance, he added, “You can arrest all of us. We will come back and make our case to the people of Ghana.”
Dr. Bawumia emphasised that the party remains committed to democratic principles and will continue to present its policies and vision to Ghanaians despite what it perceives as mounting pressure.
The arrests have heightened political tensions, with party supporters expressing concern over what they describe as a crackdown on opposition figures. However, the NPP leadership maintains that it will not be deterred and will instead intensify its engagement with the public in the lead-up to upcoming political activities.
The development is expected to further fuel political debate across the country as stakeholders closely monitor the unfolding situation.
