Vice President of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has engaged members of the Ghanaian diaspora in Vic, Spain, following her participation in the 4th High-Level Meeting of the Initiative in Defence of Democracy.
She was accompanied by Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain, Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, during the engagement with Ghanaian residents, traditional leaders, and representatives of various associations across different provinces in Spain.
The Vice President conveyed warm greetings from President John Dramani Mahama and commended the Ghanaian community in Spain for their continued efforts in promoting a positive image of the country abroad. She reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening ties with Ghanaians living overseas and ensuring more structured engagement with the diaspora.
Briefing the community on developments in Ghana, she outlined ongoing economic measures aimed at stabilising the economy, reducing inflation, and maintaining fiscal discipline. She also highlighted government’s broader agenda to transition Ghana into a value-added, production-driven economy through the “Big Push” initiative.
She further detailed key policy interventions, including reforms in agriculture to boost local production and reduce imports, as well as social programmes such as the No-Fees Stress Policy for first-year tertiary students, the distribution of free sanitary pads for schoolgirls, and expanded access to primary healthcare.
Additional initiatives such as the Goldbod programme, the phased rollout of the 24-hour economy policy, and the proposed Women’s Development Bank were also presented as part of efforts to drive inclusive growth and national transformation.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang expressed appreciation for the warm reception from the diaspora community and encouraged them to remain united and actively involved in Ghana’s development. Ambassador Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe also underscored the importance of continued engagement between Ghana and its citizens abroad, pledging ongoing diplomatic support for diaspora welfare and participation in national development.
