Ghanaian highlife musician Belinda Nana Ekuah Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel, has become the centre of intense public discussion following an emotional appearance on United Showbiz on UTV.
During the broadcast on April 4, 2026, the “16 Years” hitmaker broke down in tears as she addressed long-standing allegations that she had been raped by a well-known pastor. She firmly denied the claims, describing them as false and baseless.
Recounting the events that fueled the speculation, Mzbel explained that in 2023 she had an encounter with a pastor—whose identity she chose not to disclose—after he invited her to his office late at night. According to her, she responded to the call out of concern after he claimed to have received a spiritual revelation about her.
“I went there in my pyjamas because I had already gone to bed,” she said. “I even went with some of my boys. But when I got there, he wasn’t saying anything serious. He was showing me décor in his office and behaving inappropriately.”
Mzbel stated that she became upset and decided to leave, asking for compensation for her time. She said the pastor gave her GH¢1,000, which she shared with the individuals who accompanied her. She stressed that no sexual encounter took place.
The singer also addressed the viral video that circulated online, which many interpreted as evidence of an affair. She insisted the footage was misleading and taken out of context, contributing to damaging rumours about her character.
In a deeply emotional moment, Mzbel clarified that while she has indeed experienced rape in her life, it was not connected to any pastor, contrary to public claims. Fighting back tears, she expressed frustration over the persistent narrative.
“Something bad happened to me, and I was looking for help, yet people came on social media to criticise me,” she said. “They kept saying I was raped. Am I the only woman in Ghana with a vagina? It hurts.”
She further revealed that the incident had been officially reported to the police at the time, questioning why she continues to be blamed for her own trauma.
“When I was raped, I reported it. How is it my fault?” she asked. “I am deeply hurt, and I just want to go home. The name-tarnishing is too much.”
Mzbel also touched on the fallout between herself and media personality Abeiku Santana, hinting that the situation has had a negative impact on her career and public image.
Her emotional revelation has since sparked widespread reactions online, with many calling for greater sensitivity when discussing issues of sexual assault and public figures’ private lives.
