The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has declared Dr. Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah Atokple, owner of Sesi Edem Company Limited, a person of interest in an ongoing investigation into alleged fraud and money laundering involving tens of millions of cedis.

In a statement dated March 30, EOCO disclosed that the case stems from a petition filed in November 2025 by J.G Resources Ltd and Unigold Trading LLC. The two firms allege that they were defrauded under the pretext of a gold supply deal involving 50 kilograms of gold valued at GH¢57.7 million.
According to EOCO, investigations are centered on suspected offences including defrauding by false pretences and money laundering. These alleged crimes fall under multiple legal frameworks, including the Economic and Organised Crime Act, 2010 (Act 804), the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044).
The Office revealed that Dr. Kwamigah Atokple was invited in November 2025 to assist with investigations but failed to honour the invitation.
“As at now Dr Tanko Kwamigah Atokple, owner of SESI EDEM Company Limited, is a person of interest and is wanted by the Economic and Organised Crime Office to assist in the investigation,” the statement noted.
EOCO further indicated that preliminary investigations uncovered suspected proceeds of crime in the company’s bank account. As a result, authorities secured a freeze on the account, which was confirmed on January 30, 2026, to prevent any movement of funds.
In February, Sesi Edem Company Limited challenged the freeze in court, seeking to overturn the order. However, EOCO maintained that the application failed to take into account legal provisions that empower authorities to preserve suspected proceeds of crime pending the outcome of investigations.
The Office also clarified that, contrary to some reports, the company has not been formally charged before any court, stressing that the matter remains under active investigation.
“Unless and until SESI EDEM Company Limited is charged before a court of competent jurisdiction, this matter is still under investigation,” EOCO stated.
EOCO added that directors of the company have not complied with lawful requests to appear before investigators and warned that further legal steps will be taken to locate and arrest them if necessary.
