The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has appealed to party members and the general public to remain patient following concerns over the limited number of successful applicants in the country’s security services recruitment.
According to him, the government’s priority is to strengthen the economy in order to create more employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth.
His comments come after the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, revealed that although nearly 500,000 people applied for recruitment into the security services, only about 105,000 applicants progressed to the medical stage of the process. However, just 5,000 positions are available for final enlistment.
Speaking to party supporters in Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah cautioned that rushing to address the situation could worsen the problem, stressing that sustainable solutions require time.
“The anger will not solve the problem. Without sufficient funds, how can we employ more than necessary? Fixing issues takes time. The first priority is to strengthen the economy, and President Mahama is working diligently on this,” he said.
He further noted that early signs of economic recovery are beginning to emerge and urged Ghanaians to allow the government’s policies to take effect.
“We are already beginning to see the benefits. We must exercise a little more patience to allow these efforts to create opportunities for everyone,” he added.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah also warned that growing impatience among the youth could undermine efforts to address unemployment challenges.
“Rising impatience will not help. Let us learn to be patient. Things will improve, and this government is committed to opening up opportunities for all,” he stated.
