President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday paid glowing tribute to Ghana’s senior citizens, describing them as pillars of national development, during a special luncheon held at the Jubilee House to mark Republic Day.
The event, which brought together distinguished elderly citizens from across the country, was graced by several high-ranking dignitaries, including Vice President H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, Acting Chief Justice Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, and Chairman of the Council of State Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho.
In his address, President Mahama expressed profound appreciation to the senior citizens for their sacrifices and enduring commitment to nation-building over the decades.
“You laid the foundation upon which our democracy, stability, and development stand today. Ghana is grateful for your service, and today, we honour your legacy,” the President said.
He further underscored his administration’s commitment to restoring dignity and opportunity for all citizens—both old and young—through inclusive policies and good governance.
The luncheon was part of activities to commemorate Republic Day, which has traditionally been dedicated to recognising the efforts of elderly Ghanaians who have contributed meaningfully to the country’s progress.
The celebration, themed #ResettingGhana, also served as a reminder of the values of unity, leadership, and service, which President Mahama says will guide his renewed vision for Ghana’s transformation.
