President John Mahama has apologized to the Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference for the oversight in failing to invite them to the National Education Forum.
Speaking at the launch in Ho on Tuesday, Mahama expressed regret over the omission and emphasized that the forum aims to promote inclusivity. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to engaging religious bodies in national conversations.
“Let me express my sincerest apologies on behalf of the planning committee of the forum to our stakeholders from the faith-based organizations for the unpardonable omission in your delayed invitation,” he stated.
The apology comes after the religious bodies jointly expressed disappointment over their exclusion from the important dialogue on education reforms.
Mahama acknowledged that the omission was swiftly rectified but reiterated that the apology was necessary.
“Since you are the purveyors of God’s mercy on Earth, I’m sure you have forgiven us,” he added. “We know you’re important stakeholders because you own many schools, and this educational forum is vital for bringing everyone together.”
The forum, which gathers education experts, policymakers, civil society groups, and religious leaders, aims to discuss strategies for improving Ghana’s education system.
