In a moment that has captivated political observers and music enthusiasts alike, the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has embraced the iconic “Number One” song by highlife artist Kwabena Kwabena as a celebratory anthem.
This comes after the NPP secured the coveted number one position in the Electoral Commission’s (EC) balloting for the December 7th presidential election.
Following the balloting event, a video surfaced of Dr. Bawumia and his campaign team jubilating on their campaign bus.
The NPP flagbearer, visibly elated by the number one placement on the ballot, was seen singing along to Kwabena Kwabena’s hit track, which was originally composed for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the 2016 election campaign.
The song, which played a pivotal role in rallying support for then-candidate Akufo-Addo, now seems to have found new life in Bawumia’s campaign.
While it remains unclear whether Kwabena Kwabena will create a remix of the song to incorporate Bawumia’s name, or if the original version will be used, the song’s adoption signals a continuation of the NPP’s tradition of blending music and politics to energize its base.
