Religious Leaders Praise EC’s Decision To Prolong Re-Registration Exercise

The Electoral Commission has extended by one week the re-registration of NHIS card holders and others who missed out of the limited registration exercise starting August 4 – August 12.

The decision was arrived at, at an emergency IPAC meeting in Accra.

Speaking to Radio Ghana, Deputy PRO at the EC, Yusif Ayuba, said the EC and the political parties took the decision following concerns from stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the National Peace Council has welcomed the decision by the Electoral Commission, to extend by a week the re-registration of deleted names of NHIS card holders.

Chairman of the National Peace Council, Professor Emmanuel Asante, told GBC’s Rebecca Ekpe, that the EC’s decision is a step in the right direction and a perfect decision for Ghana’s democracy.

He appealed to citizens to go and verify their names in the voters register and not wait till the last minute, adding that political parties must play positive roles to ensure a peaceful and successful election 2016.
