John Mahama To Declare Today

Finally, the day many Ghanaians have been waiting for has arrived! This morning at 11:00 a.m, Former President John Dramani Mahama would declare his intention to contest for the 2020 NDC flagbearer slot by presenting his Letter of Intent to the General Secretary of the party at the party’s headquarters in Adabraka, Accra.

Many Ghanaians, especially NDC supporters, have been anxiously waiting for the Former President to declare his intention to contest in the NDC primaries slated for December 7 this year.

Readers would recall that last week Thursday, in a front page story, this paper published that according to a very reliable source, the Former President would this week declare his intention to contest. This would come to pass today.

Many supporters of the party would be trooping to the party’s headquarters early this morning to witness the handing over of the Letter of Intent to the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia. Already, social media is awash with pictures of the Former President as excited supporters of the party savour the euphoria that is preceding the declaration.

The former President’s decision to contest is based on several calls from the grassroots of the party as well as well-meaning Ghanaians across the country following the abysmal performance the Akufo-Addo-led Family and Friends NPP government has put up so far which has seen Ghana’s education and health sectors in particular in a total mess.

The unemployment situation in the country is worsened by the day by the collapse of banks with its attendant job loses. The mishandling of the economy has led to widespread hardship while Akufo-Addo’s many lofty campaign promises such as ‘One Village One Dam’, ‘One constituency, One million dollars’ and ‘one district, one factory’ remain a mirage.

Corruption has become the middle name of the government with scandal after scandal being unearthed on a daily basis. Looting of the state’s coffers is going on unabated through very fraudulent schemes such as budgeting GH ¢800,000 for the creation of a website, an activity that would cost not more than GH ¢1,000. Many are hoping 2021 would see the return of Mahama to put an end to the kleptocracy of the NPP government and restart the rapid economic growth that he had embarked on before leaving office.
