Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund (MDF), Dr. Hanna Louisa Bissiw-Kotei has reacted to the assault against former Awutu Senya East MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson.
The former lawmaker was beaten by some unknown thugs on Friday, July 11 during voting at the Odorkor Methodist 1 polling station.
Speaking to the media while at the Ateco polling station in Ablekuma North, the MDF Boss recounted attacks against her during elections years ago at a polling station in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, stating that although she condemns violence, she cannot extend her sympathy to Hawa Koomson.
Dr. Bissiw justified her decision by claiming that Hawa Koomson has in the past orchestrated assaults and attacks against some NDC supporters including herself.
“I condemn violence but please don’t ask me to feel sorry for Hawa Koomson because I would be lieing before you and before God, I don’t feel sorry one bit.
“Go and ask her if she deserves it. And also, I am a victim of Hawa Koomson, ask her if I deserve the men that she brought to come and attack me, ask her the people that were shot and killed at Kasoa, and the organizer that died, go and ask her the gun that she shot and people died, did they deserve it?,” she said.
She continued: “If she thinks i deserved what she did to me. Then she deserves this even better.”
Dr. Bissiw also alleged that she herself had been a victim of violence orchestrated by the former minister.
“I was beaten because she led thugs to come and beat me up. Has she forgotten?” she claimed, referencing an incident she said occurred to her.
While Dr. Bissiw distanced the NDC from the attack, she speculated that it might have stemmed from within the NPP’s own ranks.
“Nobody sent anyone to go and beat her. As far as I am concerned, it may even be an internal something that they visited on her,” she suggested.
Despite her comments, Dr. Bissiw emphasised that the NDC is focused on peaceful elections and not fomenting violence.
“This is very peaceful. We are taking the day, and we do not have any need to destroy the elections because we are winning,” she added.
The rerun at Ablekuma North although peaceful has recorded some pockets of violence with assaults on some journalists.
