President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described the newly inaugurated Flower Pot Interchange in Accra as a transformative infrastructure project that will serve as a lasting benefit to future generations.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Tuesday, November 19, the President emphasized the need for collective responsibility in preserving the interchange, which he said symbolizes progress and development.
“This interchange is not just for today; it is a legacy for generations yet unborn,” President Akufo-Addo stated. “I urge the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the National Roads Authority, local leaders, commuters, and every Ghanaian to ensure this vital project remains functional and effective for the long term.”
He also called on motorists and pedestrians to adhere strictly to road safety measures, emphasizing that the success of the project hinges on disciplined use.
“Let us respect road regulations and prioritize safety. Motorists must exercise caution, and pedestrians must stay alert. Together, we can avoid accidents and make this interchange a model of efficiency,” he urged.
The Flower Pot Interchange is designed to ease congestion and improve connectivity between key areas such as Cantonments, Burma Camp, East Legon, Spintex, and Tema. The upgraded infrastructure includes several enhancements, such as:
- A new road through the old East Legon tunnel.
- An additional 200-meter stretch linking Cantonments to the Giffard Road interchange.
- A redesigned roundabout at Flower Pot with improved approaches.
- Pedestrian-friendly walkways along the flyover.
- Modern road furniture, including streetlights, road markings, and traffic signals.
President Akufo-Addo highlighted the broader impact of the project, noting that it will enhance urban mobility and contribute to the overall quality of life for residents in the Greater Accra Region.
“This is more than a road; it is an investment in our people and our future. Let us all take pride in this achievement and protect it for the benefit of all,” he concluded.
The interchange is expected to significantly reduce travel time, boost economic activity, and provide a safer commuting experience for thousands of road users daily.
