President John Dramani Mahama is departing for France today, Monday, April 6, 2026, following an invitation from French leader Emmanuel Macron.
A statement issued by the Presidency and signed by government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu indicated that the visit will commence in Lyon, where President Mahama will take part in the 2026 One Health Summit. The global forum is expected to focus on strengthening health systems, improving food security, and enhancing coordinated responses to emerging health threats.
President Mahama, who leads the Accra Reset Initiative, is scheduled to co-chair the summit’s high-level segment on Tuesday alongside President Macron. The gathering will bring together heads of state, health ministers, and international experts to discuss reforms to global health governance and adopt a joint political declaration aimed at boosting cooperation.
During the summit, the Ghanaian leader will deliver two keynote speeches. One will address the future of global health architecture in a session co-led by President Macron and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization. His second address will outline Ghana’s stance on global health security and highlight national efforts to tackle evolving health challenges.
After the summit, President Mahama will travel to Paris on Wednesday, April 8, for bilateral discussions at the Élysée Palace with President Macron. The talks are expected to focus on deepening cooperation between Ghana and France in areas such as healthcare, education, trade, investment, and regional security.
As part of his itinerary, President Mahama will also meet Gérard Larcher at the French Senate ahead of the official engagements at the Élysée Palace.
