The Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, has downplayed growing speculation that she is set to be appointed Ghana’s next Minister for Defence.
The rumours took a lively turn on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, when a group of journalists greeted her at Parliament with chants of “incoming Minister of Defence” as she exited the chamber. A video circulating online captured the moment, showing the MP smiling and adjusting her scarf while responding with a light-hearted dismissal.
“Guy, I don’t know about this,” she said, laughing off the claims as the journalists continued to cheer her on.
Despite her response, the atmosphere remained celebratory, with some reporters expressing admiration and pride as she made her way down the staircase.
Speculation about her possible appointment has intensified in recent days, partly fueled by a social media post from the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey. In the post, which featured a photo of himself and Dr Zanetor, he reflected on patience and timing, stating that “what is meant for you will come together at the right time.”
Although he made no direct reference to any appointment, the message has been widely interpreted by political observers as suggestive.
President John Dramani Mahama has previously indicated that appointments to fill key ministerial vacancies, including Defence, would be made in 2026. Speaking at the Jubilee House in late 2025, he urged the public to ignore speculation and wait for official announcements.
The Defence Ministry has remained without a substantive head since the tragic death of Dr Edward Omane Boamah, who was among eight people killed in a helicopter crash in August 2025 while on official duty in the Ashanti Region.
