The seventh edition of the Women’s Choice Awards Africa, held last Saturday, celebrated exceptional African women who are advancing inclusion and transformational leadership across various sectors on the continent.
Among the standout honorees was Lady Dentaa Amoateng MBE, CEO of GUBA, who received recognition for her remarkable work in diaspora affairs. Ing. Prof. Elsie Akosua Biraa Effah Kaufmann, Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana, earned the Legacy Honours in STEM Empowerment. Sarah Femi Asante, CEO of Groupe Sebastien, was commended for her outstanding leadership in business and hospitality.
Dr. Fatma Odaymat of Al-Rayan International School was named Transformational Leader of the Year. Merene Botsio Benyah of JLD & MB Legal Consultancy earned the Legal Leadership Award, while Judith Adjobah Blay, CEO of Ghana National Gas Company, received the Ultimate Woman in Leadership (Energy) award. Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong was recognised for excellence in emergency response leadership.
The awards continued with Adwoa Boatemah Adu–Sarkodee of Phoenix Health Insurance as the Outstanding Woman in Health Insurance Leadership and Adiza Ibrahim of Electroland Ghana Limited for marketing leadership. Joyceline Coleman of KPMG was awarded for transformative accounting excellence, and Selassie Ibrahim, CEO of Regal Film Festival and Awards, was honoured for her influence in arts and culture.
Npontu Technologies received recognition for innovation in platforms and app development. Zenith Bank (Ghana) Ltd took home the Excellence in SME Banking Award, and fashion designer Lauren Hanson of Lauren Haute Couture was honoured for her contributions to style. Melissa Bediako of Kempinski Hotels earned an award for leadership in hospitality management, while Soronko Academy’s CEO, Regina Honu, received Legacy Honours in STEM and innovation.
Roberta Annan of the African Fashion Foundation was celebrated for women’s creative empowerment. JLD & MB Legal Consultancy was named Outstanding Commercial Law Firm, and Ghana National Gas Company won Leading Excellence in National Gas Management. Mrs. Kate Hassan of Thea Villa Hotel received the Entrepreneurial Excellence in Hospitality Award, and Mrs. Esther Adomako of Trans-National Insurance Brokers Ltd was honoured for leadership in insurance broking.
The Ghana National Fire Service received the award for Driving Strategic Fire Prevention and Emergency Operations. Educational excellence was awarded to Al-Rayan International School, while Maame Yaa Dufie of Colour Drop Impressions Ltd received honours for corporate branding leadership.
PR excellence went to Emma Wenani of Global Media Alliance, and healthcare financing excellence went to Phoenix Health Insurance. Mrs. Aretha Mensah of Knowledge Tree was honoured with the Woman of Impact Award for philanthropy and education.
In media leadership, Nana Yaa Serwaa Sarpong of EIB Network received the Ultimate Woman in Leadership Award. Joana Gyan Cudjoe of Golden Empire Legacy Ltd earned the Agent of Change Award, and Abigail Amma Afriyie Abora Addo of Aide Chemist was awarded Woman CEO of the Year (Pharmaceuticals).
