Private legal practitioner, Lawyer Martin Kpebu, has refuted claims suggesting he is being investigated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), stating firmly that he has only been asked to assist with information.
His reaction comes after comments by the OSP’s Director of Strategy, Samuel Osei, who alleged that Kpebu failed to honour an invitation last Friday. Speaking on TV3, Kpebu described that claim as misleading, explaining that no official invitation reached him ahead of the said date.
According to him, the only contact made was a missed call from an unfamiliar number on Thursday afternoon—far too short a notice for a Friday appearance. “How do you look for me on Thursday afternoon and expect me to appear at the OSP the next day?” he questioned.
Kpebu said a formal letter was eventually served later that same evening, sometime between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., directing him to report to the OSP on Tuesday. He noted that the letter explicitly stated he was not a target of any investigation.
Quoting the document, he said: “The purpose of your appearance remains to assist the OSP with information and clarification. Your cooperation will not of itself be treated as evidence of wrongdoing.”
The lawyer added that he is ready to honour Tuesday’s engagement and stressed that he has never held any public office or engaged in conduct that could trigger an investigation.
