National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has justified his ongoing nationwide thank-you tour, saying it is his responsibility to appreciate party members and supporters for their role in the NDC’s 2024 electoral victory.
The tour marks the second round of post-election engagements by the NDC Chairman since the party assumed office in January 2025.
It has, however, attracted criticism from sections of the public and political commentators, who argue that such tours are typically undertaken by a presidential candidate rather than the party chairman—particularly when the party is in power.
Addressing party faithful in the Hohoe Constituency on Tuesday, October 14, Asiedu Nketia dismissed the criticisms, insisting that his actions align with the NDC’s long-standing tradition of gratitude and solidarity.
“Those who disagree with me can continue with that, and I will continue to honour my promise. That is why I am here,” he said. “It also sits very well with our tradition that when you go and beg somebody to give you something, and you are given what you request, the next thing is to go and say thank you. That is why I have come to say thank you to everybody.”
He emphasised that the tour is not about political showmanship but a genuine expression of appreciation to the grassroots members, volunteers, and sympathizers who worked tirelessly to ensure the NDC’s return to power.
