Deputy National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Osman Ayariga, has called on the people of Akwatia to hand the parliamentary seat to the NDC in the upcoming by-election, citing the goodwill and achievements of President John Dramani Mahama.
Addressing supporters in Akwatia as part of the party’s campaign activities, Mr. Ayariga said the constituency stands to benefit more if it aligns with the governing NDC.
According to him, President Mahama has demonstrated unprecedented leadership since assuming office, stressing that for the first time in the country’s history, the cost of living has seen a consistent decline under a new administration.
“This is the first time in our history that a new government has come into power and prices of goods and services have reduced — and they keep reducing,” Mr. Ayariga said.
“Because of this drastic achievement and the goodwill of John Mahama, the people of Akwatia must vote for the NDC so that through our candidate, Akwatia can also benefit from the developmental and reset agenda.”
With just days to the Akwatia Constituency parliamentary by-election, scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025, both the ruling NDC and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have intensified their campaigns in a fierce contest for the vacant seat.
Background
The by-election was necessitated by the untimely death of NPP Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi, who served for only six months before his passing. In the 2024 parliamentary elections, Mr. Kumi defeated the NDC’s Henry Boakye Yiadom by polling 19,269 votes against 17,206, a margin of 2,063 votes.
