I’m Ready to Appear Before Parliament Over GoldBod Finances – Sammy Gyamfi

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has challenged the Minority in Parliament to invite him before the House to account for the institution’s financial and operational performance.

Mr. Gyamfi said GoldBod has nothing to hide and is prepared to subject its records and operations to parliamentary scrutiny amid allegations linking the institution to losses recorded under the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme (DGPP).

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the GoldBod CEO directly challenged Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to invite him before the appropriate parliamentary committee to substantiate claims made against the institution.

“The GoldBod is serving this nation dutifully and conscientiously and we have nothing to hide. Let me reiterate my challenge to Afenyo Markin that I am ready any day and time to appear before any committee of Parliament to discuss the operational and financial health of the GoldBod.”

His comments follow a press conference held by the Minority on Tuesday, August 18, where Mr. Afenyo-Markin raised concerns about GoldBod’s financial performance and its alleged connection to the US$1.7 billion loss recorded by the Bank of Ghana under the DGPP in 2025.

The Minority has argued that the reported loss, estimated at about GH¢22 billion, represents a financial loss to the Republic and should be properly accounted for.

GoldBod, however, has rejected the allegations, insisting that its audited 2025 financial statements tell a different story.

According to Mr. Gyamfi, GoldBod recorded an operational surplus of GH¢907 million and an overall surplus exceeding GH¢5.4 billion in 2025.

He said a parliamentary hearing would provide an appropriate platform for the claims to be tested against GoldBod’s financial records and operational data.

“Let no one seek to obfuscate this important challenge by roping in the Bank of Ghana. Mr. Afenyo Markin, you claim the GoldBod has made losses. You also claim that the GoldBod is responsible for the losses of the Bank of Ghana, we are waiting for your invitation to appear before Parliament for you to substantiate these claims,” he said.

Mr. Gyamfi maintained that GoldBod is prepared to account for its stewardship and respond to questions about its financial health before Parliament.

He also urged the Minority to focus on the specific allegations against GoldBod rather than shifting the discussion to the Bank of Ghana.

The GoldBod CEO said the ongoing controversy would not distract the institution from executing its mandate of maximising the value Ghana derives from its gold resources.

“The GoldBod will remain focused on its mandate. We will continue to account transparently for our stewardship. And we will not be distracted from the important work of creating value for the Ghanaian people from the exploitation of the gold resources of our beloved nation,” he added.

The latest exchange adds to growing political scrutiny of Ghana’s gold purchasing arrangements, with the Minority demanding greater accountability over the financial implications of the DGPP while GoldBod insists that its own audited accounts demonstrate a strong financial position.
