A member of the communications team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Edward Aboagye, popularly known as Miracles Aboagye, has been released on bail by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following his arrest over an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving public funds.

Mr Aboagye was granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties to be justified after hours of discussions between his legal representatives and officials of EOCO.
His release follows his arrest on Sunday, July 12, 2026, in connection with investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), where he previously served as executive secretary.
EOCO has stated that Mr Aboagye, together with former IMCCoD accountant Gerald Appiah and other individuals, is being investigated over alleged offences involving the misappropriation, misapplication, diversion and theft of public funds estimated at about GH¢55 million.
According to the anti-graft agency, the investigation was triggered by a petition from the current executive secretary of IMCCoD requesting further inquiries into a forensic audit conducted on the activities of the committee between August 1, 2022, and February 2, 2025.
The suspected offences under investigation include conspiracy to steal, stealing, using public office for profit, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, defrauding by false pretences, money laundering and other related offences.
The arrest of Mr Aboagye attracted supporters and sympathisers who gathered at the EOCO headquarters to demand his release. Security personnel, including military officers, national security operatives and police officers, were deployed to maintain calm and ensure the smooth movement of people and vehicles in the area.
The NPP has criticised the arrest, describing it as an attempt to intimidate its members and shift attention from pressing national concerns.
The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, cautioned government officials that political power is temporary and warned that those in office today could face similar scrutiny in the future.
However, EOCO has maintained that the arrest and subsequent investigations are part of its mandate to pursue suspected financial crimes and that all persons involved will be treated in accordance with due process.
Mr Aboagye’s bail does not bring the investigation to an end, as EOCO continues its inquiries into the alleged financial transactions and activities linked to IMCCoD.
