Thirty-two Ghanaians are among 374 West African nationals featured on an updated list published by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for deportation.
The DHS released the names and photographs of the individuals as part of its ‘Worst of the Worst’ initiative, which identifies foreign nationals it considers priority cases for removal from the United States.
Nigeria has the highest number of individuals on the list, with 124 nationals named.
Liberia follows with 94, while Ghana has 32 listed. Sierra Leone has 26 nationals, Cape Verde 23, Senegal 19, Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia 14 each, Mauritania 12, Burkina Faso 9, Niger 8, Guinea and Togo 6 each, and Mali 5. Guinea-Bissau and Benin each have one national on the list.

Some of the Ghanaian nationals named include Edward Sarpong, who is listed for burglary and the sale of synthetic narcotics; Paul Dayah, who is listed for sexual assault, drug possession and drug trafficking; Martin Obeng Darko Berchie, who is listed for a sex offence and Kwabena Adjei, who is listed for homicide.
According to the DHS, the individuals on the list are among the most serious cases targeted for removal from the United States.
The publication of their names and photographs forms part of a broader DHS strategy to publicly identify foreign nationals it considers priorities for deportation.
