President John Dramani Mahama has commended Ghanaians for participating in a nationwide clean-up exercise and has called on citizens to return the following day to continue the campaign aimed at improving sanitation across the country.
In a Facebook post after the exercise, the President thanked residents for their commitment and stressed that maintaining clean communities is a shared responsibility.
“Thank you for coming out today. Let’s do this again tomorrow. It is our collective responsibility to keep our communities clean. We must all step out of our homes tomorrow and Get Involved!” he wrote.
President Mahama also directed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to promptly remove debris cleared from drains and collect rubbish swept from homes to ensure the exercise achieves its intended impact.
“I expect the MMDAs to clear the debris we are clearing from the drains and the rubbish residents are sweeping out of their homes,” he stated.
The President further called for a change in public attitudes toward waste disposal, warning against the indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drainage systems.
“We must change our attitude and stop the reckless dumping of waste into our drains. Drains are not dumping grounds. When we have waste to dispose of, we must do so responsibly,” he emphasized.
Reiterating his appeal for sustained public participation, President Mahama urged Ghanaians to once again join the clean-up exercise, saying, “Tomorrow, we go again. Get Involved!”
The nationwide sanitation campaign forms part of the government’s broader #ResettingGhana agenda, which seeks to promote environmental cleanliness, improve public health, and encourage greater civic responsibility.
