Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has been extradited from Ghana to the United States following an order by the Accra High Court, bringing an end to months of legal proceedings over his transfer.

According to Asaase Radio, Abu Trica departed Ghana on Thursday, July 9, aboard Delta Air Lines Flight DL157 from Kotoka International Airport en route to the United States, where he is expected to stand trial over an alleged $8 million romance fraud scheme.
His extradition comes after the Accra High Court on July 2 upheld an earlier ruling by a district court, effectively clearing the final legal hurdles for his transfer to US authorities.
The extradition follows concerns raised by his legal team over his whereabouts in the days leading up to the transfer. Lead counsel Oliver Barker-Vormawor disclosed that he was out of the country when the extradition process was expedited and had been unable to establish contact with his client shortly before he was flown out of Ghana.
Abu Trica was arrested on December 11, 2025, during a joint operation involving Ghanaian security agencies and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
US authorities are seeking his prosecution in connection with an alleged romance fraud operation that reportedly defrauded victims of approximately $8 million. He is expected to appear before a US court to face the charges following his arrival.
The extradition marks one of the latest examples of cooperation between Ghanaian law enforcement agencies and US authorities in tackling transnational cybercrime and online fraud.
