An Accra High Court has ordered the extradition of Fredrick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, to the United States to face prosecution over his alleged involvement in an $8 million romance scam.
The ruling marks a significant development in the high-profile extradition case, with U.S. authorities seeking Kumi to answer charges linked to an alleged international romance fraud scheme.
The development was confirmed by his lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, in a Facebook post on Thursday, July 2. Barker-Vormawor, who said he is currently out of Ghana on work duties, disclosed that the court had fast-tracked the case and granted the extradition request.
“I am out of Ghana for work. I just heard that the case of Abu Trica has been fast tracked and a judge has just ordered his extradition. Hmmm. FBI 1 – Abu 1. I guess this issue goes to the Supreme Court,” he wrote.
The latest ruling comes months after the Accra High Court granted Kumi bail in the sum of GH¢30 million with two justified sureties following his detention since December 2025.
Kumi has remained at the centre of extradition proceedings after U.S. authorities accused him of participating in an alleged romance fraud operation that reportedly defrauded victims of approximately $8 million.
The extradition order is expected to trigger the next phase of the legal process, with the defence likely to challenge the decision at the Supreme Court.
If an appeal is filed, the country’s highest court will determine whether the High Court’s extradition order should stand, potentially delaying Kumi’s transfer to the United States to face trial.
