Central University has confirmed that it is working closely with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) following the arrest of five students accused of engaging in the production and sale of cannabis and cannabis-infused products on campus.

In a statement issued on June 19, 2026, the university said it had taken note of reports regarding the arrest of the students, who are currently in NACOC custody in connection with an incident linked to activities held during the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Week celebrations.

The statement, signed by the Registrar, indicated that university management is collaborating with NACOC and other relevant state agencies to establish the facts surrounding the case and obtain verified information on the circumstances leading to the arrests.

“At this stage, the University is engaging with NACOC and other relevant authorities to establish the facts and obtain verified information regarding the circumstances surrounding the matter,” the statement said.

Management added that it would refrain from making further comments while investigations remain ongoing, stressing the need to allow due process to take its course.

The five suspects, who are reported to be students in Levels 100, 300 and 400, were arrested following intelligence-led operations targeting suspected drug-related activities within the university community.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the students were allegedly involved in the production and distribution of cannabis-infused products, including ice cream, sobolo, toffees, pepper and eggs. They are also suspected of dealing in raw cannabis.

Authorities reportedly seized quantities of suspected narcotic substances during the operation, which have been sent for forensic examination as part of ongoing investigations.

In response to the development, Central University has suspended all remaining SRC Week activities as a precautionary measure. The university said the decision was taken to maintain order and ensure the safety of students while a review is conducted into the circumstances of the incident and existing event management procedures.

NACOC has reiterated its determination to clamp down on drug-related activities within educational institutions and has cautioned students against engaging in the use, production or trafficking of narcotic substances.

The arrested students are expected to assist investigators as authorities work to determine the full extent of the alleged operation and identify any other individuals who may be connected to it.

Central University assured students, staff, parents, alumni and the wider public of its full cooperation with the relevant authorities and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline, safety and institutional integrity on campus.
