A deepening rift has emerged within the Akuapem South Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following allegations of mismanagement of a GH¢20,000 monthly financial support reportedly provided by the party’s national leadership.

The fund, intended to address operational challenges and strengthen party structures at the grassroots, has instead become a source of contention among constituency executives and branch members.
Kwame Adjei, Branch Organiser for the Attakrom Electoral Area, has accused some constituency executives of diverting the funds away from their intended purpose. According to him, despite several months of disbursements, the money has not been used to tackle pressing issues affecting the party at the branch level.
In an interview, Adjei alleged that a significant portion of the funds is being spent on funeral-related activities rather than programmes aimed at mobilising support and addressing the needs of party members.
“They’re not ready to use the money for its intended purpose at the branches. The money is rather being used for funerals, and they will insult you if you talk about it,” he claimed.
He further expressed concern that since the NDC assumed office, grassroots members have seen little to no benefit from the financial support.
“It’s not being used to address the needs of the party. Since we came to government, we don’t know what the money has been used for,” he added.
The allegations have sparked tension within the constituency, with some executives reportedly expressing dissatisfaction over the handling of the funds. The situation has led to growing disaffection among members, raising questions about transparency and accountability in the management of party resources.
Adjei has called on the party’s National Chairman to intervene and investigate the matter to ensure that the funds are used appropriately.
“The party National Chairman should look into the issue,” he appealed.
He also suggested that the monthly allocation could be redirected towards addressing developmental challenges within the constituency, including the poor state of roads in several communities.
“Roads in the constituency are in bad shape, and that amount can be used to fuel equipment to address these issues,” he noted.
The controversy appears to have extended beyond the constituency’s executive body, with growing concerns among party members. Voice notes circulating on internal communication platforms reportedly reveal widespread dissatisfaction and calls for a clear account of how the funds have been utilised since disbursements began.
Despite the mounting concerns, constituency party officials are yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
The development comes at a critical time for the NDC, as it seeks to consolidate its grassroots support and maintain unity while addressing the needs of its members and the broader community.
