President John Dramani Mahama has called on young people across Ghana to steer clear of drug abuse and other harmful behaviours that could undermine their future and the country’s progress.
Delivering his Eid al-Adha message at the Independence Square on Wednesday, May 27, the President stressed the need for discipline, responsibility and a strong commitment to positive values among the youth. He noted that the nation’s development depends heavily on young people who are focused, law-abiding and determined to succeed through legitimate means.
According to him, substance abuse and negative peer influence continue to pose a serious threat to the aspirations of many young Ghanaians, urging them to make choices that will secure a better future for themselves and the country.
President Mahama also highlighted the importance of moral leadership and peaceful coexistence, pointing to the example of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu. He described the cleric’s life as one marked by humility, tolerance and dedication to peace, qualities he encouraged the youth to emulate.
He further advised young people to channel their energy into education, skills development, entrepreneurship and service to society, rather than activities that could derail their ambitions.
The President reaffirmed his belief that with the right mindset and values, Ghana’s youth can play a transformative role in shaping a more prosperous and united nation.
