President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to inclusive and balanced national development following a high-level engagement with the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.

During a courtesy call led by Nene Sakite II, the President outlined what he described as steady economic progress, highlighting improved macroeconomic stability, declining inflation, a strengthening currency, and Ghana’s ability to meet its debt obligations while withstanding global shocks.
President Mahama also disclosed ongoing efforts to operationalize the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences (UEAS) at Bunso. He noted that the initiative forms part of broader strategic investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and local governance aimed at driving long-term national growth.
A key policy highlighted during the engagement was the uncapping of the District Assembly Common Fund, which now allows Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies to retain 80 percent of their allocations. According to the President, this move is expected to accelerate local development and support initiatives such as the rollout of 24-hour economy markets across the country.
While acknowledging the progress made, President Mahama emphasized the urgent need to address youth unemployment. He stressed that sustainable solutions would depend on private sector growth, industrialization, and expanded agricultural production.
On healthcare, the President assured the Chiefs of government’s commitment to completing the Eastern Regional Hospital project. He also announced plans to commence three new hospital projects nationwide to improve access to quality healthcare services.
He further reiterated that flagship interventions such as Free Primary Health Care and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares), alongside expanded health infrastructure, remain central to improving the wellbeing of Ghanaians.
President Mahama expressed appreciation for the continued support of traditional authorities, noting that strong collaboration between government and chieftaincy institutions remains essential for achieving sustainable development.
