A young man has been taken into police custody in the Ashanti Region after allegedly attempting a daring theft of a police armoured vehicle in a shocking daytime incident at Nkawie Market.

The suspect, identified as Ebenezer Frimpong, is said to have exploited a brief security lapse when the vehicle’s driver reportedly stepped out to buy medication, leaving the engine running and the armoured vehicle unattended.
Reports indicate that Frimpong allegedly entered the vehicle and drove off in what appeared to be a bold attempt to escape with it. The situation quickly triggered an alert, leading to a coordinated response by a nearby police patrol team.
A pursuit ensued and ended in Mim, near Abuakwa in the Kumasi enclave, where a SWAT unit intercepted the vehicle and arrested the suspect. The armoured vehicle was successfully recovered without damage.
Police have since secured the vehicle and confirmed that the suspect remains in custody, assisting investigators as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
