Pollster Mussa Dankwah has indicated that support for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is on the decline, while the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is gaining momentum, according to ongoing tracking polls for March 2026.
In a Facebook post, Mr Dankwah revealed that “ongoing face-to-face tracking poll for March 2026 shows NPP continues to decline in party affiliations.”
He explained that prior to the 2024 Ghana general elections, the NPP held a marginal lead in party identification. “Prior to the 2024 elections, NPP was 37% and NDC, 33%,” he noted.
However, the latest figures suggest a significant shift in voter alignment. According to Mr Dankwah, only 25% of voters now openly identify with the NPP, compared to 46% for the NDC.
The disparity appears even sharper in key battleground areas, including Greater Accra Region, Central Region, and Western Region. In these swing regions, just 22% of respondents identify with the NPP, while 58% align with the NDC.
Mr Dankwah attributed the trend partly to recent political developments. “In the aftermath of NPP primaries, cocoa price brouhaha, etc., the political environment still appears hostile for the opposition party,” he said.
The findings highlight mounting challenges for the NPP as it attempts to rebuild support following the 2024 elections, particularly in swing regions that have historically played a decisive role in determining electoral outcomes.
