The Ghana Police Service has arrested and detained controversial media personality Cyril George Carstensen Lutterodt, popularly known as Counsellor Lutterodt, over alleged incitement and offensive remarks believed to threaten public peace.

According to police sources, Lutterodt was picked up following comments he made regarding the burial of the late Ghanaian highlife legend, Daddy Lumba. In the remarks, he alleged that the musician had been buried at a private residence in East Legon.
He further reportedly urged Ga youth to go to the location with pickaxes to exhume the body, claiming that burying the musician at an unapproved site on Ga land was disrespectful to the traditional authorities and customs of the area.
Police say the comments are being treated as incitement to violence and offensive conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, offences punishable under the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) and the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491).
Investigators believe the statements, which circulated widely on social media and radio discussions, had the potential to provoke unrest, particularly among youth in the Ga community.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed that Lutterodt is currently assisting with investigations while authorities assess the full circumstances surrounding the remarks.
The arrest has already sparked debate across social media and within the media space, with some commentators defending the action as necessary to maintain public order, while others argue that it raises questions about freedom of expression.
Meanwhile, police have urged the public to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that any grievances should be addressed through lawful and peaceful means.
Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
