The Wa High Court has handed a life sentence to Eliasah Mahama, the prime suspect in the murder of Eric Johnson, the late owner of Royal Cosy Hills Hotel, nicknamed Jirapa Dubai, in the Upper West Region.
In a unanimous 7–0 ruling on Wednesday, October 15, the court found Mahama, a former Human Resource Manager of the company, guilty of his role in the killing.
The other two accused persons, Belinda Miller, aged 23, and Kweku Kankunbata, aged 56, however, acquitted and discharged.
After a nearly year-long trial, the judgment brings closure to a case that gripped the Upper West Region.
Speaking to journalists after the verdict, counsel for the Johnson family expressed relief, saying, “We may never get Eric Johnson back, but at least justice has been served.”
Mr. Johnson, aged 60, was murdered by some assailants on Sunday, February 11, 2024, before 1:30 am, with his stolen vehicle driven out of his residence by the assailant(s).
His attacker used a ladder to climb over his wall and subsequently used a master card to gain access to his room.
Seven persons were subsequently picked up as part of investigation to unravel the mystery surrounding the death.
