Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has praised Ghanaians in New York for their spirited reception of President John Dramani Mahama and his delegation, who are in the United States for the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
“You can never take out our beautiful culture from the Ghanaian no matter how far he/she has travelled and no matter how long he has been out there,” Ablakwa said in a post shared after the welcoming event.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception extended to the President, he added, “Thank you, Ghanaians in New York, for the incredible Ghanaian welcome of President Mahama and his delegation attending the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.”
The Foreign Minister also used the occasion to connect the moment with the national holiday being marked at home.
“Happy Founder’s Day, Nkrumah’s philosophy of the African Personality lives on,” he wrote, invoking the legacy of Ghana’s first president.
Founder’s Day, observed annually on September 21, is dedicated to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who led Ghana to independence in 1957 and became the nation’s first president.
The holiday honours Nkrumah’s vision of Pan-African unity, self-determination, and the idea of the “African Personality,” which emphasized pride in African identity and culture.
