Ghanaian dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has had his luxury vehicle seized by authorities following a joint operation involving the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and the United States Justice Department.
The search and retrieval operation, which took place at Shatta Wale’s residence in Trassaco Valley Phase 1, was part of an ongoing international investigation into the criminal activities of Nana Kwabena Amuah, a convicted fraudster currently serving an 86-month sentence in the United States for multiple financial crimes.
According to EOCO, the operation was led by its Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU), following a formal request made in 2023 by the FBI. During the search, officers lawfully seized a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which has been tied to Amuah’s illicit proceeds.
Shatta Wale reportedly expressed concern over the public nature of the seizure, telling officers that the luxury car was an essential part of his public image and that its removal could damage his brand if seen by fans. He was eventually allowed to surrender the vehicle voluntarily, which is now in EOCO’s custody.
The United States authorities are expected to submit a Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request to the Government of Ghana to have the vehicle repatriated to the US, where it will contribute toward Amuah’s court-ordered restitution of $4.74 million.
Shatta Wale and a former officer of the National Signal Bureau (NSB) have both been designated as persons of interest and are expected to assist EOCO with further investigations in the coming days.
EOCO has confirmed that it may share its final report with US authorities as part of continued international cooperation on the case.
