The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has officially transferred 17 gold bars, estimated at $1.7 million, to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) during a brief ceremony held at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra.
The gold was initially intercepted by NACOC officers stationed at the Paga Border Post in the Upper East Region. Two Burkinabe nationals were apprehended during the attempted smuggling operation and are currently facing charges related to the illegal transport and trading of gold.
During the handover, Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting GoldBod in its mission to safeguard and regulate the country’s gold assets.
GoldBod’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, commended NACOC for its swift and effective response. He emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation in protecting Ghana’s natural resources and urged continued collaboration among security institutions.
Also present at the event were the Chief Director of the Interior Ministry, Mrs. Doreen Annan; the Director-General of NACOC, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey; and other senior representatives from both NACOC and GoldBod.
