Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that the National Misinformation and Disinformation Bill is ready to be laid before Parliament for review in its upcoming session.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, July 3, Mr. George described the bill as a vital tool for safeguarding Ghana’s digital information space against the growing spread of falsehoods and harmful online content that threaten public trust, national security, and democratic participation.

“To protect the integrity of Ghana’s digital information ecosystem, the Ministry is steadily moving to present the National Misinformation and Disinformation Bill to Parliament,” he said.

The draft legislation aims to establish a clear legal framework empowering relevant agencies to combat the deliberate creation and dissemination of false information while safeguarding citizens’ rights to free speech.

“This bill is not intended to gag anyone but to provide enforcement clarity and strengthen legal protections against intentional disinformation,” Mr. George noted.

He further emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to promoting responsible digital communication, enhancing public trust, and improving digital literacy.

“Freedom of expression will continue to be respected, but with it comes the responsibility not to misinform,” he added.
