President of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated his call for unity among African leaders and the global African diaspora in the fight for reparatory justice. In a message posted on his official Facebook page to mark Africa Day, John Mahama urged stakeholders across the continent and beyond to work together towards a future grounded in justice and healing.
“Let us work together to build a future where justice prevails, where the wounds of the past are healed, and where the potential of every African and person of African descent is fully realised,” he wrote.
As the African Union’s Champion for Reparatory Justice for Africans and People of African Descent, John Mahama used the occasion to appeal to African governments, civil society organisations, youth groups, and diaspora communities to join hands in advocating for reparations and addressing historical injustices.
“Let the pursuit of reparations be a testament to our resilience, our determination, and our unwavering belief in a brighter future,” he stated, emphasizing the need for collective action.
Africa Day, celebrated annually on May 25, commemorates the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now known as the African Union (AU). It serves as a moment of reflection on the continent’s progress and a call to action for unity and development.
