President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated the need for urgent action to accelerate gender equality in Ghana, emphasizing the importance of empowering women across all sectors of society.
In a Facebook post marking International Women’s Day 2025, Mahama highlighted this year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, as a call for Ghana to take decisive steps toward closing the gender gap.
“This year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, calls for urgent measures to ensure that we achieve gender equality. Ghana has made some significant strides, particularly in electing its first female Vice President. Let’s build on this momentum,” Mahama stated.
The former president stressed the importance of prioritizing women’s empowerment in education, business, politics, and leadership, urging collective efforts to create an inclusive society.
“We must all prioritize empowering and uplifting women in every sphere, from education and business to politics and leadership. Let’s work together to create a Ghana where every woman has the opportunity to reach her full potential,” he added.
Mahama, who is seeking a return to the presidency in the upcoming elections, has consistently advocated for women’s rights and leadership roles in governance. His message aligns with growing calls for more female representation in decision-making positions across Ghana and Africa.
The 2025 International Women’s Day celebrations come at a time when Ghana has seen progress in gender inclusion, but activists continue to push for policies that ensure equal opportunities for all women.
Mahama’s post was accompanied by hashtags reinforcing his stance on gender equality, including #IWD2025, #WomenInLeadership, and #MahamaThePresident.
