In a groundbreaking moment for the Volta Region and Ghana at large, Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple, a 36-year-old entrepreneur, philanthropist, and business mogul, has secured a landslide victory to represent the Volta Region on the Council of State.

His triumph, earning 24 votes, marks a historic shift towards youthful leadership, innovation-driven governance, and a people-centred approach to development.

For many, Mr Atokple’s election is not just another political win it is a symbol of hope and progress and a testament to the power of hard work, vision, and selfless service.

His rise from a business leader to a statesman underscores the evolving nature of governance, where competence and impact matter as much as political experience.

From Entrepreneur to Statesman: A Journey of Impact

Unlike many who climb the political ladder through traditional party structures, Mr. Atokple’s credibility was built on his direct impact on people’s lives.

His Tanko Foundation has played a crucial role in supporting underprivileged children through scholarships, improving access to quality healthcare, and funding community development projects across Ghana.

As the CEO of Sesi-Edem Company Limited, he has not only created jobs and driven investment in key sectors but has also demonstrated that business leaders can contribute meaningfully to national development.

His business success has been a launchpad for his philanthropy and, now, his political influence, proving that young professionals and entrepreneurs have an important role to play in Ghana’s governance.

“I have always believed that leadership is about service. My business and philanthropic work have been about empowering people and creating opportunities. Now, I have the opportunity to bring that same energy and commitment to the Council of State to advocate for policies that will uplift the Volta Region and Ghana as a whole,” Mr Atokple stated in his post-election remarks.

A Victory for the Volta Region: A New Era of Development

Beyond personal achievement, Mr Atokple’s victory translates into a major win for the Volta Region, a region with a rich cultural heritage, strong economic potential, and a population yearning for greater opportunities.

His pledge to work closely with assembly members, traditional rulers, and community leaders signals a shift from passive representation to active engagement and problem-solving.
The Volta Region has long battled with issues of infrastructure deficits, youth unemployment, and limited investment opportunities.

With Mr Atokple’s proven business acumen and vast networks, expectations are high that he will not only serve as a bridge between the region and national policymakers but also attract meaningful investments and projects to accelerate development.

“This victory is not about me; it’s about the Volta Region. It’s about ensuring that our voices are heard, our needs are met, and our youth have a future they can look forward to.
I am committed to ensuring that this region receives its fair share of national development,” he emphasised.

The Hope of Ghana’s Youth: A Leadership Shift

For the youth of Ghana, Mr Atokple’s election is proof that the doors of leadership are opening to younger, innovative, and forward-thinking individuals.

His election challenges the long-standing narrative that governance is reserved for the older generation, reinforcing the belief that young people have a role to play in shaping the nation’s future.

Ghana’s youth, who make up a significant portion of the population, have often felt disconnected from political processes.

Many see Mr Atokple’s rise as a source of inspiration, proving that with hard work, vision, and dedication, young people can ascend to positions of influence and drive real change.
“Young people have ideas, energy, and the desire to make a difference. My election should be a message to every young Ghanaian that leadership is not out of reach. If you are committed to service and development, you can be part of the decision-making process,” he said.

What Lies Ahead?

As he prepares to take his seat at the Council of State, Mr. Atokple has a clear agenda to serve as a strong advocate for economic empowerment, youth development, and regional progress.
His business background gives him a unique advantage in policy discussions around job creation, investment promotion, and sustainable development.

The people of the Volta Region and Ghana at large will be watching closely—not just to see him occupy a seat in the Council of State but to witness the tangible impact of his leadership. Many expect him to champion policies that align with the needs of the people, push for government accountability, and ensure that regional development is prioritised.

A Call to Action for Young Leaders

Mr Atokple’s journey sends a powerful message to Ghana’s youth: leadership is not just about age or experience—it is about impact, innovation, and the willingness to serve.

His rise from a business leader and philanthropist to a political figure is a call to action for young professionals across the country to step forward, contribute their ideas, and be part of Ghana’s transformation.

His election redefines leadership in Ghana, proving that young people are not just the future, they are the present.

As he assumes his new role, one thing is certain: Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Atokple is not just a leader for the Volta Region, he is a leader for a new Ghana.
