President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mr. Sammy Gyamfi Esq. as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC). In his new role, Mr. Gyamfi will lead efforts to establish the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a key initiative outlined in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 manifesto.
The establishment of the GoldBod, under the direction of the Minister for Finance, is a top priority for the Mahama administration. It is envisioned as a transformative body that will drive economic revitalization by sustainably managing and marketing Ghana’s gold resources. The board will also formalize the small-scale gold mining sector and provide essential mining support services, ensuring the industry’s long-term growth and contribution to national development.
Mr. Gyamfi, a seasoned lawyer and Economic Policy Analyst, brings a wealth of academic and professional experience to the position. He holds a BSc in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Law from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, a Barrister-at-Law certificate from the Ghana School of Law, and an MA in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana.
An alumnus of the Harvard Kennedy School, Mr. Gyamfi has earned Executive Certificates in Emerging Leaders and Strategic Leadership Programmes. His professional background includes roles with Exton Cubic Group Limited, a prominent mining company in Ghana. He also serves as the National Communications Officer of the NDC, a position that has bolstered his reputation as a dynamic and strategic leader.
The Ghana Gold Board is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring that the country’s gold resources are utilized to benefit all Ghanaians, as part of broader efforts to enhance economic resilience and inclusivity.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President, confirmed the appointment, expressing confidence in Mr. Gyamfi’s ability to deliver on this significant mandate.
