On his first day as President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama wasted no time addressing the nation’s economic and infrastructural challenges.
In a Facebook post, the newly elected president revealed that one of his initial engagements was a strategic meeting with Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
During the meeting, President Mahama and Dr. Adesina discussed avenues for continued collaboration between Ghana and the AfDB to finance critical economic and social infrastructure projects.
The discussions are part of the President’s broader vision to reset the economy and address the deteriorating state of key infrastructure across the country.
“On my first day of work as President, I held a key meeting with the President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina,” Mahama wrote. “We discussed how the AfDB can continue to support and finance major economic and social infrastructure projects, especially as my government sets out to reset the economy and begin revamping deteriorated critical infrastructure.”
The post, carried the hashtag #MahamaThePresident,
The AfDB has been a longstanding partner in Ghana’s development journey, providing financial and technical assistance for various sectors, including energy, agriculture, and education.
Observers are optimistic that this renewed collaboration will lead to the realization of transformative projects under President Mahama’s leadership.
As Ghanaians await the President’s detailed economic recovery plan, the meeting signals a proactive start to his administration, focusing on addressing infrastructure deficits and setting the nation on a path to economic recovery.
