The President of Nigeria, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, has lauded the election of President John Dramani Mahama as a source of pride and honour for Ghana, Africa, and the global African diaspora.
Delivering a keynote address as the guest speaker at Mahama’s inauguration on Tuesday, January 7, at the Black Star Square in Accra, Tinubu described the event as a moment of inspiration for the continent.
In his address, Tinubu commended the people of Ghana for their commitment to democracy and peaceful transitions of power, noting that Mahama’s victory represented the collective aspirations of not just Ghanaians but Africans worldwide.
The Nigerian President also used the occasion to highlight the importance of unity across the African continent. He urged African leaders and citizens to work together to resolve conflicts peacefully, strengthen bonds of brotherhood, and resist external influences that seek to sow discord.
“This is a moment of pride and honour for Ghanaians, the entire continent, and the diaspora. The sun is out and the sky may be blue but I see a shining black star rising high in the African skies and spreading across with a sense of shared history of hope, unity, compassion, and devotion to our common welfare.
“While others may seem to demean Africa, that shinning star reminds us of who we are and who we can be and reminds us always to strive and work together even when we disagree, we must choose the path of peaceful dialogue and never to do harm to our brothers and not allow any outsider to destruct our bond of brotherhood.”
