Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rubbished allegations that the presidential candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana Kofi Akpaloo picked number one and secretly swapped it with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) rep.
Following the balloting at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Accra on Friday, September 20, a video alleging swapping of ballot position went viral on social media.
According to Mr. Omane Boamah, even though his party has issues with the Electoral Commission, it will not “dabble in unfounded allegations just because of politics.”
“It must be stated without equivocation that there was no swap of ballots between Kofi Akpaloo and the NPP,” reads part of his Facebook post on Saturday, September 21.
Evans Nimako, Director of Elections for the New Patriotic Party has also dismissed the allegations.
Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, Mr. Nimako said, “Would a candidate of a political party love NPP and Bawumia so much that he would swap his number one for Us?
“I didn’t swap any ballot with Akpaloo. I don’t know where that is coming from and I think we must dismiss that claim.” he added.
Also speaking on Accra-based Adom TV earlier, Mr. Akpaloo said it doesn’t make sense for anyone to believe he would give his ballot position to his political opponent.
According to him, he was not even sitting beside the NPP Director of Elections Evans Nimako, so anyone who decides to spread such falsehoods or believe them is doing so at their own discretion.
The NPP will appear in the first spot on the ballot paper while the NDC will appear in the eighth spot.
The All People’s Congress (APC) candidate,
Hassan Abdulai Ayariga picked the ninth position.
Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana
(LPG) picked number five, while Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) picked seventh.
Kofi Koranteng, an independent candidate, secured the tenth position, while George Twum Barima will appear in the eleventh spot.
The New Force Movement, led by Nana Kwame Bediako (Cheddar), has been placed in the twelfth position, with the Movement for Change going for the number thirteen position.
