Court forces University of Education, Winneba to shut down all campuses

Media reports indicated that UEW was taken to court by one individual, a resident of Efutu, Supi Kofi Kwayera. The case brought forward by Supi Kofi Kwayera reportedly challenged the legal standing behind some actions taken by the UEW Governing Council.

University of Education, Winneba entrance In the suit, Supi Kofi Kwayera challenges the authority of management members, Principals, Deans, and Deputy Registrars appointed by the Council. After a Tuesday court session, where the complainant was represented by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the school decided to close down all campuses.

After the Tuesday sitting, the court allowed the complainant to get some reliefs until the case is substantiated at the next court sitting on 16th June.

In light of the court’s rulings, the school decided to shut down the campuses. University of Education, Winneba shuts down “In order not to flout the directive of the court, the Registrar has been directed by the University community at a meeting held today 13th June, 2017 to communicate the closure of all campuses of the University (Winneba, Kumasi, Mampong-Ashanging, and Ajumako)”, a statement signed by the school’s registrar, Dr. C.Y. Akwaa-Mensa stated.
