The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has accused the Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour of deliberately spreading falsehoods regarding claims of “suspicious aircrafts,” he alleged landed at the country’s Kotoka International Airport.
The Minister’s remarks come after Fordjour was invited to assist with investigations into the matter.
Fordjour demanded an urgent briefing on the cargo carried by two aircraft—AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B—suspected of transporting cocaine and cash into the country, triggering President John Dramani Mahama to order a probe into the claim.
Speaking on the issue on Thursday April 3, Ofosu alleged that Fordjour has since distanced himself from his earlier statements, claiming they were not his personal views but rather those of a committee he represented.
I can report to you that because he knew he was peddling total falsehoods and lies, he now claims after being invited to assist with investigations that he was speaking on behalf of the committee that he was part of and that the views he expressed were not his personal views, so because of that he says he is unable to cooperate with the security agencies,” Ofosu stated.
The Minister further criticised Fordjour’s actions, asserting that his claims were baseless and aimed at undermining public confidence in the government.
“I say that he was peddling falsehood because the fact as they exist vary completely from the claims that he made. When he made that claim, he was only seeking to peddle falsehood in a bid to undermine the confidence that the people of Ghana have in this government,” he added.
