Some gunmen have attacked passengers on a bus at Pusu-Namongo in the Talensi district of the Upper East Region, leaving several of them injured.
The bus which was travelling from Garu in the Upper East Region to the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi, was attacked around 8pm Saturday, January 11, 2025.
The gunmen fired gunshots at the passengers, leaving a number of them with severe gunshot wounds, with several other passengers yet to be found in the bushes.
The victims were swiftly transported to the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga for urgent medical care, with the extent of injuries and the current condition of victims unclear.
Although the cause of the attack is not known yet, sources indicate it may be linked to the Bawku conflict which has been rekindled by some group of people within the enclave.
Bawku and its environs have witnessed sporadic violence in recent months, escalating tensions and heightening insecurity.
The police have secured the crime scene and launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm as they work to bring the attackers to justice.
Meanwhile, the Assemblyman for Pusu-Namongo, Roland Basamah Gorogo, has told TV3’s Upper East Regional correspondent, Castro Senyalah, that a community search team has been dispatched to help look for the passengers who fled to the bushes for cover.
