Officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) reportedly attempted to take Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah into custody at the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
The incident is said to be connected to an ongoing investigation involving the Ghana Jollof TikTok account.
Sources close to the MP claimed that EOCO officials had previously sought to engage Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah over the matter, alleging that he had failed to respond to invitations to assist with the investigation.
The MP’s sources, however, disputed that claim and said he had not received any formal invitation from EOCO.
Footage circulating from the incident shows a woman identifying herself as an EOCO officer approaching the MP and asking him to accompany her to the agency’s offices.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah declined the request and later left the premises in his Toyota V8 vehicle, with the EOCO officials reportedly following him.
The MP, who is also a lawyer, has publicly defended Salomey Baffoe, who has been alleged to be an accomplice of the person operating the Ghana Jollof TikTok account.
According to sources close to the legislator, the reported attempt to take him into custody may have been connected to his public defence of Baffoe. That claim, however, has not been independently established.
During the encounter, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah was heard questioning the reason for the request, saying: “You need me at EOCO for what?! Because I’m defending a poor woman, you want to arrest me.”
The circumstances surrounding the reported incident remain unclear.
It is also not yet established whether EOCO formally invited the MP, whether an arrest warrant or other legal process existed, or what specific grounds officials may have relied upon in seeking to take him to the agency.
EOCO had not publicly issued a statement explaining the incident as of the time of publication.
